CrossSafe: School crossings in the news

CrossSafe has officially launched this week, marking an important step toward improving school crossing safety across our community.

As a key part of the launch, I have written to key local leaders — including school Principals, P&C Presidents, local Councillors and community representatives — inviting their support and encouraging them to share the initiative with their networks. School crossing safety is one of the most consistently raised concerns in the electorate, and CrossSafe is designed to ensure local voices are heard and reflected in future advocacy and solutions.

This initiative is built on the understanding that lasting improvements require a united effort. By working closely with schools and community leaders, and by hearing directly from families and residents, CrossSafe aims to develop a clear picture of what is happening on the ground and what changes are needed most.

The program also received a strong start in the media yesterday, with positive coverage following an interview with PerthNow highlighting CrossSafe’s focus on pedestrian safety. The story was subsequently featured in the Western Suburbs Weekly, helping raise early awareness of the initiative and encouraging community participation.

Early interest has been encouraging, and residents are now being urged to complete the CrossSafe survey to share their experiences and help shape the priorities moving forward.

Every survey response will help build a stronger evidence base for advocacy, ensuring concerns are clearly documented and local safety priorities are properly understood.

To have your say, complete the CrossSafe survey today.
