Two local schools visit Parliament today

Two Churchlands schools got a first-hand look at democracy in action today, visiting Parliament House to sit in on Question Time and meet their local Member, Basil Zempilas MLA.

Students from Churchlands Senior High School and Newman College met Basil ask questions about his role and  then watched from the public gallery as Members debated in the Legislative Assembly.

"It's one thing to read about Parliament in class but it's another to sit in the gallery and watch it happen," said Basil.

"These students asked sharp questions and were genuinely engaged.

"They're the next generation of voters, and it's important they see how decisions get made."
