The Churchlands Electorate Office recently welcomed Gabrielle and Patrick as interns through the Young Liberal Movement Internship program. An initiative designed to give students practical, firsthand insight into the daily operations of a busy electorate office, the program offers young people a valuable understanding into the day-to day work of an electorate office and how local issues are supported and represented.
During their placement, Gabrielle and Patrick developed a range of practical skills that underpin effective campaigning and community representation. Their work included drafting newsletter content, curating social media pieces, and speech writing, as well as working with the community through constituent engagement.
The internship also provided Gabrielle and Patrick with the valuable exposure to the boarder workings of government beyond the electorate office. As part of their experience, they visited the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, where they gained insight into how different roles operate within a parliamentary team, and had the opportunity to observe how policy, communications and strategy operates behind the scenes
They visited WA parliament, where they toured the building and observed Question Time from the public gallery. The experience provided valuable insight into the parliamentary process as well as the work that takes place behind the scenes to support Members.
Their contribution across the past two weeks showcases the positive impact that youth engagement programs have within the community. Gabrielle and Patrick approached the internship with dedication and energy demonstrating a strong willingness to learn and contribute meaningfully to the work of the team.
